The YDS30.037 is an idle gear (idler gear) for TCM Z5 and T6 series transmissions used in FD20-FD30 forklifts, also compatible with Heli CPCD10-CPCD35 transmissions. The gear is manufactured from case-hardened 20CrMnTi with a surface hardness of HRC 58-62 and features a phosphated (Parkerized) surface treatment for corrosion resistance during shipping and storage. The gear bore accepts a caged needle roller bearing with a 25mm ID, which is the standard idler shaft diameter for TCM Z5/T6 transmissions — verify this dimension before ordering as early Z4 transmissions used a 22mm shaft that is not interchangeable.

This idle gear is located on a stationary shaft pressed into the transmission case and rotates freely on its needle bearing during both forward and reverse operation — the idler’s purpose is to transmit torque between the input shaft gear and the output shaft gear while reversing the direction of rotation for the reverse gear train. Because the gear is constantly meshed and rotating, any needle bearing wear that creates radial play greater than 0.06mm will cause the gear to oscillate on its shaft during forward operation (when the idler is not under load), producing a distinctive “growling” noise at idle that disappears when reverse is engaged. When replacing this gear, the needle bearing must be packed with assembly lube that is specifically formulated for ATF compatibility — do not use general-purpose grease as it contains thickeners that will not dissolve in ATF and will plug the transmission filter.
