Forklift Steering Column: Mechanical Steering Shaft Assembly for Hydrostatic Steering Systems
The forklift steering column is the mechanical assembly that transfers rotational input from the steering wheel to the orbitrol hydraulic steering unit. It typically consists of a steel shaft tube, universal joint couplings, and mounting flanges that connect the operator steering wheel to the hydrostatic steering system input. When the operator turns the wheel, the column shaft rotates the orbitrol input, which meters hydraulic oil to the steering cylinder — providing proportional, low-effort power steering. A worn or damaged steering column causes steering free play, rough or notchy wheel feel, and in severe cases complete loss of steering control.
