Forklift Wiper: Windshield Wiper Motors, Arms & Blades for Enclosed Cab Forklifts

A functioning windshield wiper is mandatory safety equipment on any enclosed-cab forklift — especially those operating outdoors in rain, snow, or dusty conditions. When the wiper motor fails mid-shift during a downpour, visibility drops to zero and the forklift becomes a safety hazard. When the wiper blade is worn and streaking, glare from overhead lights or sunlight through a wet windshield blinds the operator. A $40 wiper motor replacement prevents the downtime, the safety risk, and the operator frustration of working with zero forward visibility.

Wiper Motor vs Wiper Arm vs Wiper Blade:

Wiper Motor — The 12V or 24V electric motor that drives the wiper arm through a linkage mechanism. A failed motor produces either no movement (open circuit or seized motor) or slow/stuttering movement (worn brushes or corroded commutator). The self-park feature returns the wiper to the bottom of the windshield when switched off — if the wiper stops wherever it is mid-sweep, the self-park switch inside the motor has failed.

Wiper Arm — The spring-loaded metal arm that presses the wiper blade against the windshield. Arm spring tension must be correct — too little and the blade lifts at speed, too much and the blade chatters. CA-A01 arms are compatible with Isuzu KB21 and Daihatsu SV22 cab enclosures.

Wiper Blade — The rubber element that contacts the glass. Replace blades every 6-12 months or when streaking, chattering, or incomplete wiping occurs.

When to Replace Your Wiper Components:

• Wiper doesn’t move at all, no motor sound → Check fuse first, then test motor with direct 12V/24V. Replace motor if it doesn’t run when powered directly.
• Wiper moves slowly or struggles to complete a sweep → Motor brushes worn or linkage binding. Lubricate linkage first; if still slow, replace motor.
• Wiper stops randomly, doesn’t self-park → Self-park switch inside motor failed; replace motor
• Wiper arm doesn’t maintain pressure on the glass → Arm spring fatigued; replace wiper arm
• Blade streaks, chatters, or leaves unwiped areas → Blade rubber hardened or torn; replace blade
