Forklift Start Battery: 12V & 24V Cranking Batteries — LiFePO4, Sodium-Ion, AGM Lead Acid & MF for Diesel, LPG & Electric Forklifts

The start battery provides the high-current burst required to crank a diesel or LPG forklift engine, or to power the ignition and auxiliary circuits on electric forklifts. Unlike deep-cycle traction batteries that power the drive motor, start batteries deliver short-duration high-amperage discharge (measured in CCA — cold cranking amps) and are immediately recharged by the alternator during engine operation. Kingstream supplies start batteries in four chemistry types: LiFePO4 lithium-ion (lightweight, 1000+ cycle life), sodium-ion (extreme temperature range -40°C to 75°C), AGM sealed lead acid (maintenance-free, high CCA), and MF calcium-alloy lead acid (cost-effective, Japan/German standard). Battery selection depends on the forklift’s voltage system (12V or 24V), required CCA rating, tray dimensions, and operating temperature range.

Battery Chemistry Comparison:
• LiFePO4 Lithium-Ion — Lightweight (0.3-7kg), 1000+ cycle life, fast recharge. Best for electric forklift starter circuits and applications prioritizing weight reduction.
• Sodium-Ion (Na-ion) — 5520Wh high-capacity, -40°C cold start without pre-heating. Best for cold storage, refrigerated warehouses, and fleet electrification.
• AGM Sealed Lead Acid — 1188 CCA, 1500-cycle deep-cycle, maintenance-free. Best for diesel forklifts requiring high starting current in moderate-to-cold climates.
• MF Calcium-Alloy Lead Acid — 528 CCA, DIN-standard footprint, cost-effective. Best for light-duty diesel and LPG forklifts in standard warehouse environments.

When to Replace / Common Symptoms:
• Engine cranks slowly or fails to start → Weak battery — load-test and replace if CCA below specification
• Battery terminals show white/green corrosion → Terminal oxidation — clean terminals, check charging voltage
• Battery case is swollen or bulging → Internal short or overcharging — replace immediately (safety hazard)
• Frequent jump-starts required → Battery end-of-life — replace before alternator damage from repeated deep discharge
• Battery voltage drops below 10.5V (12V) or 21V (24V) after resting → Capacity loss — replace
