Forklift Lift Cylinder: Mast Hydraulic Cylinders for Carriage Lifting

The forklift lift cylinder is the primary hydraulic actuator that raises and lowers the mast carriage and load. Mounted vertically within the forklift mast channel, the cylinder extends under hydraulic pressure to lift the forks and retracts under gravity or hydraulic control to lower them. These cylinders operate under continuous high-pressure conditions with frequent cycling — every load lifted and lowered is one complete cylinder stroke. Kingstream supplies single-acting lift cylinders (70mm bore, 178mm stroke for 1-3 ton forklifts), telescopic two-way cylinders (5-ton capacity for lifting platforms), free-lift cylinders (N35N450 series for CPCD38), and universal lift cylinders for warehouse and electric lift truck applications. Every cylinder features a hard chrome plated rod for corrosion resistance and extended seal life.

When to Replace Your Lift Cylinder — Common Symptoms
• Mast drifts down slowly when loaded — Internal piston seal leakage allowing hydraulic fluid to bypass the piston
• External oil leak visible on the chrome rod or cylinder body — Rod seal or wiper seal has failed
• Jerky or uneven lifting motion — Scored cylinder bore or bent piston rod causing binding during extension
• Mast fails to lift to full height — Internal cylinder damage or piston bypass preventing full pressure buildup
• Chrome rod surface shows pitting, scoring, or rust spots — Rod surface damage will destroy new seals if only seals are replaced
