The fan blade pulls ambient air through the radiator core — on a hot forklift running at full load, the fan moves over 2,000 cubic feet of air per minute across the radiator fins. A cracked or chipped fan blade creates an imbalance that destroys the water pump bearing within hours — the vibration from an unbalanced fan is transmitted directly through the pump shaft. A missing blade throws the entire fan assembly out of balance, causing the belt to slip, the pump to fail, and the engine to overheat before any temperature alarm triggers.

When to Replace Your Fan Blade:

• Visible cracks anywhere on a blade — especially at the root where it meets the hub → The crack will propagate under centrifugal force at 2,000+ RPM. Replace immediately — a thrown blade can penetrate the radiator, hood, and cause injury
• Fan wobbles or vibrates when spinning — visible runout → One or more blades are bent or a section has broken off. Do not operate the engine until the fan is replaced
• Missing or chipped blade section → Even a small chip creates a severe imbalance. Replace the fan
• Noisy bearing-like sound that changes with engine RPM → If the water pump bearing is confirmed good, the fan hub bore may be worn, causing the fan to wobble on the shaft. Replace the fan
• Blade tips contact the fan shroud — scraping noise → Fan has shifted on the hub or the water pump bearing has excessive play. Inspect both
