Forklift Relay: Starter, Glow Plug & Power Relays — 12V & 24V for Linde, Toyota, HELI, Mitsubishi & Universal Applications
A forklift relay is an electromagnetic switch that controls high-current circuits using a low-current control signal — when the relay coil energizes (from the ignition key, ECU, or control module), the contacts close to deliver full battery power to the starter motor, glow plugs, hydraulic solenoid valves, cooling fans, or auxiliary equipment. A failed relay produces either rapid clicking without the load device engaging (coil works but contacts are burnt/pitted) or complete silence (open-circuit coil). Relay failure on a starter circuit means the engine won’t crank; on a glow plug circuit, cold-start fails; on a power circuit, the connected equipment won’t operate. Relay Types & Selection Guide:
• Starter Relay — 4-pin electromagnetic relay for ignition-to-starter switching. Verify pin configuration and voltage (12V/24V) before ordering.
• Glow Plug Relay — Dual-function start + glow relay (JQ1030-04) for diesel cold-start circuits. Controls both glow plug pre-heat and starter engagement.
• Universal Relay — Standardized form factor (JD131-1, JD133, JD231) for multi-brand compatibility across 1-10 ton diesel and electric forklifts.
• Power Relay — General-purpose electromagnetic relay for auxiliary power circuits (lights, fans, hydraulic solenoids).
When to Replace / Common Symptoms:
• Engine cranks slowly or relay clicks without engaging the starter → Burnt main contacts — replace relay
• No response when turning the ignition key → Open-circuit relay coil — test and replace
• Glow plug indicator does not illuminate on diesel cold-start → Failed glow relay — replace
• Relay housing is melted, cracked, or shows burn marks → Internal short circuit — replace immediately
• Intermittent starter engagement → Corroded terminals or worn contacts — clean terminals or replace
