Forklift Horn: 24V 48V Warning Horns & Backup Alarms

The forklift horn is the most basic safety device on any lift truck — it warns pedestrians at blind corners, signals direction changes in noisy warehouses, and alerts coworkers to moving equipment. When a horn fails, the forklift becomes silent in an environment where hearing is often the first — and only — warning of approaching danger. A horn that doesn’t sound is an OSHA violation and a reportable near-miss waiting to happen.

Kingstream supplies replacement forklift horns for Toyota, Komatsu, HELI, TCM, CAT, and Nissan forklifts. Every horn is tested for sound output (dB at 1 meter), current draw, and tone quality before shipment, backed by a 6-month warranty.

Types of Forklift Horns:

Electric Disc Horn — The standard “beep” horn found on most forklifts. Uses an electromagnetic diaphragm that vibrates when energized. Simple, reliable, and available in 12V, 24V, and 48V versions. Sound output typically 105-115 dB.

Backup Alarm (Reverse Buzzer) — Automatically activates when the forklift is shifted into reverse. Produces a distinctive beeping pattern that alerts pedestrians and other operators. Some models offer adjustable volume and multi-tone options.

Dual-Tone Horn — Two horns tuned to different frequencies producing a richer, more attention-grabbing sound. Common on larger outdoor forklifts and yard trucks.

When to Replace Your Forklift Horn:

No sound when horn button is pressed → Check fuse and horn relay first, then test horn directly with 12/24V. Replace if silent when powered directly.
Weak or distorted sound — not as loud as it used to be → Diaphragm has fatigued or internal corrosion has reduced electromagnet efficiency; replace
Horn sounds continuously — won’t turn off → Stuck horn relay or shorted button wiring, not the horn itself. Diagnose the circuit before replacing the horn.
Intermittent operation — works sometimes, not others → Loose connection at the horn terminal or worn horn button contacts; check wiring first
Water or debris visible inside the horn opening → Internal corrosion or blockage; replace
