Forklift Buzzer: Reverse Alarms & Warning Buzzers for Forklift Safety

The backup buzzer is the voice of the forklift — the audible warning that tells pedestrians, coworkers, and other operators “machine is moving in reverse.” In a noisy warehouse where visual cues are blocked by racking, the backup alarm is often the only warning of approaching danger. When the buzzer fails, the forklift becomes silent in reverse — a situation that OSHA considers a safety violation and that leads directly to struck-by accidents. A $15 buzzer prevents a $50,000 injury claim.

Types of Forklift Buzzers:

Reverse Buzzer (Backup Alarm) — Automatically activates when the forklift is shifted into reverse. Produces a repeating beep pattern at 97-112 dB. The Z8510-120DZ is the standard 12V reverse buzzer for HELI CPCD20-30 forklifts. Universal models accept 12-80V and work on both electric and IC forklifts.

Safety Warning Buzzer — Continuous-tone or pulsing alarm used for specific warnings: overhead guard impact alert, parking brake engaged warning, seat belt not fastened indicator, and low hydraulic oil level alarm.

When to Replace Your Forklift Buzzer:

• No sound when shifted into reverse → Check the reverse switch on the directional control first. If the switch is good, test the buzzer directly with 12V — replace if silent.
• Sound is distorted, crackling, or much quieter than normal → Internal speaker cone damaged or water ingress; replace
• Buzzer sounds continuously regardless of gear position → Shorted reverse switch wiring, not the buzzer. Diagnose the circuit before replacing.
• Intermittent operation — works sometimes, silent other times → Loose connector or corroded terminals at the buzzer; clean and reconnect
• Buzzer housing cracked or water inside → Seal has failed, internal corrosion inevitable; replace
