The clutch and transmission system is what puts engine power to the wheels — and when it fails, the forklift doesn’t move. A slipping clutch burns out in minutes if ignored. A worn synchronizer makes every gear change a grinding gamble. A collapsed release bearing takes out the pressure plate and flywheel with it. Forklift clutch and transmission parts take enormous abuse in stop-start operations, and when one component fails, it often cascades into adjacent parts. Replacing the entire system at once is usually cheaper than fixing one piece at a time.
Kingstream supplies replacement clutch and transmission components for 15+ forklift brands including Toyota, Komatsu, HELI, Mitsubishi, CAT, and Nissan. Every part is manufactured to OEM material and dimensional specifications. Every clutch disc is measured for friction material thickness. Every pressure plate is checked for diaphragm spring tension. Every gearbox assembly is pre-tested for shift quality.
Complete Forklift Clutch & Transmission Parts Catalog:
Forklift Clutch Assembly — Complete clutch kit including the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing — everything you need for a single clutch job in one box. A clutch assembly should be replaced when the friction material on the disc is worn to within 1mm of the rivet heads, or when the pressure plate diaphragm spring shows signs of fatigue (uneven finger height, blue heat spots). We stock complete clutch kits with OEM-matched torque capacity for Toyota 7FG/8FG, Komatsu FD/FG, HELI CPCD, and Mitsubishi FGC series.
Forklift Clutch Disc — The friction disc sandwiched between the flywheel and pressure plate. This is the primary wear item in the clutch system. Clutch disc friction material wears with every engagement — forklifts in high-cycle operations (hundreds of forward/reverse shifts per day) wear discs faster than highway vehicles. Symptoms of a worn disc: clutch slips under load (engine RPM rises but forklift speed doesn’t), burning smell during clutch engagement, or difficulty engaging gears when stationary. We stock organic, ceramic, and sintered metallic discs with correct spline count and hub diameter.
Forklift Clutch Pressure Plate — The spring-loaded plate that clamps the clutch disc against the flywheel. The pressure plate contains a diaphragm spring or coil springs that provide clamping force. Over time, heat cycling weakens the spring — the clutch begins to slip even with a new disc. Inspect the pressure plate friction surface for heat checking (a network of fine cracks), warping (uneven wear pattern), and finger height consistency. We stock OEM-spec pressure plates with correct clamping force in both push-type and pull-type configurations.
Forklift Clutch Release Bearing — The thrust bearing that pushes against the pressure plate diaphragm fingers when the clutch pedal is depressed, disengaging the clutch. A failing release bearing produces a squealing or grinding noise when the clutch pedal is pressed — the noise stops when the pedal is released. A seized release bearing will destroy the pressure plate diaphragm fingers within minutes. Always replace the release bearing when replacing the clutch — the labor to access it is the same as the entire clutch job.
Forklift Clutch Housing — The cast iron bell housing that encloses the clutch assembly and bolts the transmission to the engine block. A cracked housing is usually the result of a clutch explosion (spun pressure plate) or severe impact. Check the housing alignment with a dial indicator when replacing — misalignment causes pilot bearing failure and transmission input shaft wear.
Forklift Clutch Release Fork — The pivoting lever that transfers clutch pedal movement to the release bearing. A worn fork pivot causes uneven release bearing contact, which wears one side of the bearing prematurely and can cause the bearing to seize. We stock OEM-spec forks with correct pivot bushing diameter and bearing contact pad width.
Forklift Gearbox Assembly — Complete manual transmission and powershift transmission units. A gearbox that jumps out of gear under load has worn synchronizer rings or shift fork detent springs. A gearbox that whines in a specific gear has a worn or chipped gear tooth on that gear pair. We supply factory-rebuilt and new gearbox assemblies with correct input shaft spline, output flange, and mounting bolt pattern.
Forklift Synchronizer — Also called synchro rings or blocker rings. Synchronizers match the speed of the gear to the shaft before engagement, allowing smooth, grind-free shifting. Worn synchronizers cause grinding during gear changes — most noticeable on the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. Synchronizer wear is accelerated by: rushing shifts (not pausing in neutral), low or contaminated gear oil, and riding the clutch during operation. We stock synchronizer rings with correct taper angle and friction material.
Forklift Transmission Parts — Individual transmission components including gears, shafts, bearings, seals, gaskets, shift forks, and detent springs. When rebuilding a gearbox, replace all bearings and seals — the labor to access them is the same whether you replace one bearing or all of them. We stock transmission bearing kits and seal kits for common Toyota, Komatsu, and HELI transmission models.
Forklift Other Transmission Parts — Pilot bearings, input shaft seals, output shaft seals, shift linkage bushings, transmission mounts, and other components not listed in specific subcategories above. Send us the part number or photo if you cannot find what you need.
Clutch Diagnosis Quick Reference:
• Clutch slips under load, burning smell → Worn clutch disc. Replace complete clutch assembly.
• Grinding when shifting into gear → Worn synchronizers or clutch not fully disengaging. Check release bearing and clutch adjustment first.
• Squealing noise when clutch pedal is pressed → Failing release bearing. Replace immediately — will destroy pressure plate.
• Gearbox jumps out of gear → Worn synchronizer detent springs or shift fork. Inspect both.
• Clutch pedal feels stiff or won’t return → Binding clutch cable or hydraulic clutch master/slave cylinder issue. Check linkage first.
Clutch Adjustment:
Most forklift clutches are mechanically adjusted (rod and clevis linkage) rather than self-adjusting hydraulic systems found in cars. Check clutch free play at every 250-hour PM — you should have 20-30mm of free pedal travel before the release bearing contacts the pressure plate. No free play means the release bearing is constantly loaded — it will fail within days. Too much free play means the clutch doesn’t fully disengage — causing grinding during gear changes and synchronizer wear.
