Forklift Meter: Fuel Gauges, Temperature Gauges, Oil Pressure & Air Pressure Meters

Forklift meters are the operator’s window into engine health. The fuel gauge shows how much diesel remains before the engine quits mid-shift. The temperature gauge warns of overheating before the head gasket blows. The oil pressure gauge alarms before bearings seize. When a meter fails — a stuck needle, a blank display, a wildly swinging reading — the operator loses visibility into the engine’s condition and keeps running until something catastrophic fails. A $20 gauge protects a $5,000 engine rebuild.

Kingstream supplies replacement forklift meters and gauges for Toyota, Komatsu, HELI, CAT, Mitsubishi, and Nissan forklifts. Every meter is powered up and tested for needle sweep accuracy and backlight function before shipment, backed by a 6-month warranty.

Types of Forklift Meters:

Fuel Level Gauge — Displays the diesel fuel level in the tank via a resistance signal from the fuel tank sender unit. A failed fuel gauge reads empty constantly (sending unit stuck or gauge open-circuit) or reads full constantly (shorted sender wire). Test by grounding the sender wire at the tank — if the gauge sweeps to full, the sender is faulty, not the gauge.

Coolant Temperature Gauge — Displays engine coolant temperature via a thermistor sensor in the cylinder head or thermostat housing. Normal operating temperature is 80-90°C. A gauge reading cold constantly indicates an open sensor circuit. Reading hot constantly with the engine cold indicates a shorted sensor wire. Verify with an infrared thermometer at the thermostat housing before replacing the gauge.

Oil Pressure Gauge — Displays engine oil pressure via a pressure sender on the engine block. Normal oil pressure: 30-60 PSI at operating RPM, 10-20 PSI at idle. A gauge reading zero with the engine running is an emergency — shut down immediately and check oil level. Don’t assume it’s a failed gauge.

Air Pressure Manometer — Used on air-brake equipped forklifts and compressor systems. Displays system air pressure in PSI or bar. Critical for confirming brake system pressure before operation.

When to Replace Your Forklift Meter:

Needle stuck at one position, doesn’t move with key on/key off → Gauge mechanism seized or internal coil open; replace gauge
Needle swings erratically or bounces during operation → Poor ground connection at the gauge or sender; clean connections first, replace gauge if problem persists
Backlight not working → Bulb burned out; some gauges have replaceable bulbs, others require full gauge replacement
Reading is consistently inaccurate (verified with external gauge) → Gauge calibration has drifted; replace
Visible fogging or moisture inside the gauge face → Seal has failed, internal corrosion will follow; replace
