Forklift Connecting Rod: Engine Con Rod Assemblies for Diesel & LPG Forklift Engines
A forklift connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft, converting the linear force of combustion into the rotational torque that drives the forklift. It is one of the most highly stressed components in the engine — subjected to alternating tension and compression loads at thousands of cycles per minute. When a connecting rod fails, it typically punches through the engine block, destroying the engine beyond repair. Kingstream stocks replacement forklift connecting rods for Weichai, Hyundai, Kia, Sinotruk, Shacman, and Russian-market diesel engines used in forklift and industrial applications. Every connecting rod is measured for big-end bore, small-end bushing fit, and center-to-center length before shipment.
Connecting rod failures are almost always catastrophic. The most common failure mode is a spun big-end bearing — when the bearing shell loses its locating tang and rotates inside the rod bore, it blocks the oil feed hole and starves the bearing of lubrication. Within seconds, the bearing surface welds to the crankshaft journal and the rod either seizes or snaps. Hydrolock from coolant entering a cylinder through a failed head gasket bends the rod because liquid is incompressible — the piston stops instantly while the crankshaft continues rotating. Fatigue failure at the rod bolt threads, typically caused by reusing torque-to-yield bolts during a rebuild, separates the rod cap from the beam at high RPM and sends the loose rod through the block wall. A forklift con rod that has been overheated during a previous seizure event may have altered metallurgical properties even if it measures within specification on the bench.
When replacing a forklift connecting rod, always replace the rod bolts with new OEM-spec fasteners — used torque-to-yield bolts have already been stretched beyond their elastic limit and will not maintain the correct clamping force. The big-end bore must be measured for roundness with a bore gauge at multiple angles — an out-of-round bore crushes the bearing shell and reduces oil clearance on one axis. The small-end bushing must be checked for the correct press-fit in the rod eye and for piston pin clearance — a loose bushing shifts under load and accelerates pin and piston wear. All forklift engine connecting rods in a set must be matched by weight — installing one rod that differs by more than a few grams from the others creates engine imbalance that shortens main bearing life.

Quality Control at Kingstream
Every forklift connecting rod we ship is measured and inspected for the dimensions that determine engine survival. The big-end bore is measured for diameter and roundness at 0, 45, 90, and 135 degrees — an out-of-round bore crushes the bearing and starves it of oil clearance. The small-end bushing inner diameter is checked for correct piston pin clearance with a dial bore gauge. Center-to-center length is verified against the OEM drawing to confirm the rod will produce the correct compression ratio and piston-to-head clearance. The rod beam is visually inspected for forging defects, surface cracks, and evidence of previous overheating such as blue discoloration at the big-end. Bolt threads are checked with go/no-go gauges, and the rod cap mating surfaces are inspected for fretting or damage that would prevent correct torque retention. You receive a forklift con rod assembly that measures correctly in every dimension — not one with an out-of-round big-end that spins a bearing on the first heat cycle.
