Forklift Fork Sleeve: Extension Covers, Protectors & Slip-On Sleeves for Extended Reach and Load Protection

A forklift fork sleeve is a slip-on steel or polyurethane cover that slides over the existing fork tines to extend fork length, protect delicate loads from fork marks, or shield the parent fork surface from abrasive wear. Fork sleeves are available in three primary types: steel extension sleeves that increase effective fork length for handling oversized pallets and long loads; steel protector sleeves that shield the fork surface from impact and abrasion in heavy-duty applications; and polyurethane (PU) protective sleeves that provide a non-marring cushioned contact surface for handling painted, polished, or finished goods in appliance, furniture, and consumer product logistics. Each type serves a distinct operational need — extending reach requires derating the forklift capacity for the new load center, while protective sleeves add negligible weight but must be sized precisely to the fork cross-section to prevent forward creep during load release.

When to Replace / Common Symptoms:
• Fork tips are too short to safely support the load → Install steel extension sleeves (verify derated capacity)
• Load surfaces show fork marks, scratches, or dents → Install PU or steel protector sleeves
• Sleeve slides forward during load release → Worn retaining pin holes or incorrect fork cross-section fitment
• Visible crack at sleeve heel or weld seam → Fatigue cracking — replace immediately
• Rust or corrosion on sleeve surface → Galvanized or PU upgrade recommended for outdoor/marine environments
