Forklift Thermostat — 76°C / 82°C Universal Engine Cooling Thermostat for Forklift, Tractor & Industrial Diesel Engines
This forklift thermostat is a universal 76°C and 82°C engine cooling thermostat for forklift, tractor, and industrial diesel engines. The thermostat is a temperature-controlled valve located between the engine cylinder head and the radiator — it remains closed when the engine is cold, blocking coolant flow to the radiator and forcing coolant to recirculate within the engine block to accelerate warm-up. Once the coolant reaches the thermostat’s rated opening temperature (76°C or 82°C depending on the model), the wax-filled thermal element expands, pushing the valve open and allowing hot coolant to flow to the radiator for heat dissipation. A stuck-closed thermostat is the most common failure mode — it prevents any coolant from reaching the radiator, causing engine overheating within minutes of startup regardless of coolant level. A stuck-open thermostat causes the engine to run too cold, preventing it from reaching the 82-95°C operating temperature required for complete diesel fuel combustion — resulting in increased fuel consumption, carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, and poor cold-weather heater performance. Kingstream OEM quality universal fitment for multiple engine platforms.
Installing the thermostat requires draining the coolant below the thermostat housing level, removing the housing bolts, extracting the old thermostat and gasket, cleaning the housing mating surfaces of old gasket material and corrosion, installing the new thermostat with the sensing element (spring side) facing INTO the engine block, installing a new gasket, and torquing the housing bolts to specification. The thermostat orientation is critical — installing it backwards prevents it from sensing the engine coolant temperature and it will never open. After installation, refill coolant, bleed air from the cooling system, run the engine until the thermostat opens (confirmed by the upper radiator hose becoming hot to the touch), and verify no leaks at the housing. For fleet operators, stocking both 76°C and 82°C thermostats covers winter and summer operating temperature ranges — the 76°C thermostat opens earlier for hot-weather operation where maximum cooling is needed, while the 82°C thermostat maintains a higher engine temperature for better combustion efficiency in cold weather.
