This forklift hinge is a direct-fit replacement hinge designed for XGMA 2-3.5 ton diesel forklift trucks. The hinge connects body panels — such as the engine hood, side covers, and access doors — to the forklift chassis, allowing these panels to pivot open for maintenance access and close securely during operation. On XGMA forklifts, hinges are subjected to constant vibration from the diesel engine and rough-terrain operation, combined with exposure to rain, washdown water, dust, and temperature extremes. A failed hinge — either seized from corrosion or broken from metal fatigue at the pivot point — prevents the hood or access panel from being opened for routine maintenance checks, or worse, allows the panel to detach during operation and create a safety hazard. The hinge is a structural component, not just a convenience item — it must hold the weight of the engine hood while the forklift traverses uneven ground, and withstand the repeated impact of the hood being closed after each maintenance check. Installing the XGMA hinge requires removing the old hinge from both the body panel and chassis mounting points. The mounting bolts on older XGMA forklifts may be seized from corrosion — applying penetrating oil and allowing time to soak before attempting removal prevents bolt breakage that requires drilling and tapping. After installation, cycle the hood or panel open and closed to verify smooth pivot action without binding. Lubricate the hinge pivot pin to prevent future seizing.
