Brake shoes are the friction components inside the drum brake system — when the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure from the wheel cylinder forces the curved brake shoes outward against the inner surface of the rotating brake drum, generating the friction that decelerates and stops the forklift. Installing brake shoes on a Dalian 10-15 ton forklift requires removing the wheel and tire with heavy lifting equipment, removing the brake drum from the hub, releasing the brake shoe return springs and hold-down springs, removing the old shoes from the backing plate, thoroughly cleaning the backing plate of all brake dust and debris, applying brake lubricant to the backing plate contact pads where the shoes slide, installing the new brake shoes with fresh return springs and hold-down hardware, reinstalling the brake drum, adjusting the shoe-to-drum clearance using the star wheel adjuster for proper engagement, and verifying smooth drum rotation without brake drag. After installation, test braking on a level surface and during loaded operation before returning to service.
