Forklift Radiator Cover Plate — Water Tank Protection Shield for HELI/Hangcha 1T-3.5T
The forklift radiator cover plate is a stamped steel or aluminum protective shield that mounts over the top face of the radiator core on HELI, Hangcha, and other Chinese-manufactured counterbalance forklifts. The cover plate serves two essential functions that are often unrecognized until the plate is missing or damaged. First, it physically shields the top row of radiator core tubes and fins from impact damage caused by tools, coolant jugs, and other objects dropped through the radiator grille opening during engine bay service work — a direct strike on the exposed aluminum core by a wrench dropped from seat height will crush 3-5 tube rows and cause an immediate coolant leak that disables the forklift. Second, the cover plate functions as an air-management component: it seals the gap between the top of the radiator core and the chassis radiator support frame, preventing cooling air drawn by the engine fan from bypassing the radiator core through the gap. Without the cover plate in place, 15-25% of the fan airflow can short-circuit around the radiator rather than being forced through the core, reducing effective cooling capacity by an equivalent percentage and causing the engine to run 8-12°C hotter under sustained load — the difference between operating within the safe thermal envelope and approaching the overheat threshold.
The cover plate is typically manufactured from 1.2-1.5mm galvanized or electroplated steel sheet, stamped with stiffening ribs that prevent the plate from oil-canning and vibrating against the radiator core under engine vibration — a rattling cover plate against aluminum fins will wear grooves into the fin material and eventually perforate the tubes underneath. The mounting holes align with threaded inserts or weld nuts on the radiator top tank or chassis support frame, using M6 or M8 bolts with captive flat washers. The plate includes a clearance cutout for the radiator cap neck and a formed channel that directs any coolant expelled from the pressure cap relief port downward and away from the operator — when the radiator cap vents at 0.9 bar overpressure, the escaping steam and coolant spray is deflected by the cover plate rather than spraying upward through the grille toward the operator position.
Universal fitment for HELI CPCD10-CPCD35, Hangcha CPCD10-CPCD35, and Dalian CPCD10-CPCD35 diesel and LPG forklifts. Also compatible with most Chinese-manufactured forklifts using standard frame-mount radiator installations. Each radiator cover plate ships with four M6 or M8 mounting bolts and flat washers. Before installation, inspect the radiator core top face for debris accumulation between the tube rows — the cover plate will trap this debris against the core, potentially blocking airflow to the top tube row. Torque mounting bolts to 8-10 Nm — the threaded inserts in the nylon radiator tanks will strip at torque above 12 Nm, and a stripped insert cannot be repaired without replacing the radiator. After installation, start the engine and visually check that the cover plate is not vibrating against the radiator core — a buzzing or rattling sound at idle indicates the stiffening ribs are not adequately tensioned against the support frame. Never operate the forklift with the radiator cover plate removed — aside from the airflow bypass and impact protection issues, the missing plate exposes the radiator cap and upper hose connection to damage from falling objects, a failure mode that can cause sudden coolant loss and catastrophic engine overheating within minutes.
