This torque converter connection housing is a precision-machined adapter that mounts between the 490 series diesel engine (2.54L, 4-cylinder) and the hydraulic torque converter on 2-3.5 ton forklifts. The housing serves as the critical alignment interface — it positions the torque converter impeller hub concentric with the engine crankshaft flexplate within 0.05mm, and provides the structural mounting for the torque converter stator support and pump drive gear. The housing is cast from HT200 gray iron and machined on CNC equipment to maintain the three critical alignment axes: the crankshaft centerline, the torque converter pilot bore, and the hydraulic pump drive gear axis — all three must be parallel within 0.03mm across the housing length to prevent torque converter impeller-to-turbine blade contact during operation. This housing is specifically for the 490B and 490BPG engine variants used in Heli, Hangcha, and Baoli 2-3.5T forklifts; it is NOT compatible with the 498 engine series which uses a different bolt pattern and pilot bore diameter.

Installing a torque converter connection housing requires the transmission to be removed, as the housing is sandwiched between the engine rear face and the torque converter bell. The flexplate-to-converter bolt access window on the housing must be oriented to the correct clock position (typically 12 o’clock) before final bolt torque — mis-clocking the housing will prevent access to the flexplate bolts through the access window, requiring disassembly to correct. The housing-to-engine gasket is a precision-thickness shim gasket (0.25mm compressed thickness) — do NOT substitute with RTV silicone or a paper gasket of different thickness, as this alters the torque converter end-play by the same amount as the gasket thickness difference. Torque the housing bolts to 45-50 N·m in a diagonal pattern. After installation, check the torque converter input shaft radial runout with a dial indicator through the access window — maximum allowable is 0.08mm TIR. Common failure symptoms: a metallic scraping noise from the bell housing area that changes with engine RPM (impeller-to-turbine contact from housing misalignment), torque converter overheating with transmission fluid temperature exceeding 110°C (misalignment causing internal friction), and hydraulic pump drive gear whine (pump misalignment from worn housing pilot bore).
