FREE LIFT SYSTEM OPERATION: The forklift mast typically has two lifting stages — the free lift stage and the main lift stage. During free lift, the center free lift cylinder extends the inner mast section without moving the outer mast rail, providing fork elevation without increasing the forklift overall height. Once the free lift stroke is exhausted, the two main lift cylinders on the outer mast rails take over to continue lifting the load to full height. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE: Lower the forks completely and remove any load. Disconnect the hydraulic hose from the free lift cylinder port. Remove the lift chain anchor from the cylinder rod end. Remove the cylinder mounting pin at the base and carefully extract the cylinder from the center mast channel. Install the new cylinder and secure the mounting pin. Reconnect the hydraulic hose and lift chain anchor. Bleed the hydraulic system by cycling the mast through the full free lift and main lift range 5-10 times. Check for external oil leaks at the rod seal and hose fitting under maximum load. Inspect the chrome-plated rod surface every 250 hours for scoring, pitting, or impact damage.
