Hall-effect forklift accelerator pedals are the preferred choice for high-cycle applications where the forklift operates multiple shifts per day — the contactless sensing eliminates the wear point that limits potentiometer life. They cost more initially but eliminate the mid-life dead-spot failures that cause intermittent operation and diagnostic confusion. Potentiometer pedals are suitable for lower-utilization forklifts and applications where cost is the primary consideration, but expect to replace the pedal every 3-5 years as the resistive track wears. If your forklift uses a SEVCON or Curtis controller, verify the pedal output is compatible with the controller input specification — some controllers accept only Hall-effect signals, while others work with both types.
Signs Your Accelerator Pedal Is Failing
A worn forklift throttle pedal typically shows intermittent symptoms before complete failure.
