Each radiator cap ships with the EPDM gasket protected by a plastic cap. Before installation, inspect the radiator filler neck for debris, corrosion, or pitting on both the inner sealing seat and the outer overflow lip — the cap requires two smooth sealing surfaces to maintain the rated 0.9 bar pressure; a pitted outer lip allows coolant to bypass the overflow tube and drip down the radiator face during thermal expansion. Press the cap onto the filler neck and rotate clockwise until the cap ears engage the neck ramps fully — you should feel the spring compress as the inner seal contacts the neck seat, requiring firm downward pressure during rotation. Never remove the radiator cap from a hot engine — the 0.9 bar pressure means the coolant is at approximately 110-115°C, well above the 100°C atmospheric boiling point, and removing the cap will cause instantaneous flash-boiling that ejects a geyser of superheated coolant and steam capable of causing third-degree burns.
