The brake adjuster kit is a brake system service kit for 5-7 ton heavy forklifts — including the adjustment screws, star wheels, adjustment levers, springs, and hardware that maintain the correct clearance between the brake shoes and the brake drum as the friction material wears. Unlike brake shoe kits that replace the friction material, the brake adjuster kit restores the self-adjusting mechanism that compensates for shoe wear automatically. A seized, stripped, or broken adjuster mechanism causes progressively increasing brake pedal travel — the pedal goes lower and lower as the shoes wear — until the brake pedal reaches the floor before full braking force is achieved, creating an extremely dangerous condition on a 5-7T forklift carrying rated loads.
