The seat cushion serves as a direct replacement for worn, cracked, or water-damaged original seat padding on forklift operator seats. The waterproof feature prevents moisture absorption into the cushion foam — a critical advantage in outdoor forklift operations, cold storage warehouses, food processing plants, and washdown environments where seat cushions are repeatedly exposed to rain, condensation from temperature cycling, cleaning water, and product spills. A non-waterproof cushion that absorbs water becomes a breeding ground for mold and bacteria, develops unpleasant odors, and loses its structural integrity as the waterlogged foam breaks down and compresses permanently under the operator’s weight. The wear-resistant outer surface withstands the constant friction of the operator entering and exiting the seat, the abrasive action of work clothing and tool belts sliding across the cushion, and the mechanical stress of the operator shifting position during long shifts. Installing the seat cushion requires removing the old cushion from the seat pan — typically secured with adhesive, hook-and-loop fasteners, or mechanical clips depending on the seat model. The seat pan surface must be cleaned of old adhesive residue, rust, and debris before installing the replacement cushion to ensure full contact adhesion across the entire cushion bottom surface. Gaps between the cushion and seat pan create pressure points that concentrate the operator’s weight on small areas of the cushion, accelerating localized wear and creating uncomfortable hard spots. The waterproof design eliminates the need for a separate seat cover in most applications, but for forklifts operating in heavy rain or frequent washdown conditions, a waterproof seat cover can be used as an additional protective layer without the risk of trapping moisture between the cover and cushion. For multi-shift forklifts where seats see continuous use, the cushion should be inspected monthly for surface cracking, compression set (permanent flattening), and edge separation from the seat pan.
