The assist handle ball mounts onto the steering wheel rim, providing a rotating grip knob that allows the operator to turn the steering wheel with one hand using a continuous palm-spinning motion — dramatically reducing the physical effort and number of hand-over-hand steering wheel rotations required during tight maneuvering in warehouse aisles, loading docks, container stuffing, and production line material handling operations. The free-spinning bearing inside the handle ball allows the knob to rotate independently of the steering wheel, preventing the operator’s palm from being forced to slide or drag against the grip during rapid steering corrections — this is particularly important for forklifts without power steering, where the steering effort is high and the operator needs every mechanical advantage available. Installing the steering wheel assist handle ball requires clamping the handle ball bracket onto the steering wheel rim at the most comfortable position for the operator — typically at the 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock position for right-handed operators. The clamp mechanism must be tightened sufficiently to prevent the handle ball from slipping or rotating on the steering wheel rim during use — a loose handle ball that slips during a critical steering maneuver can cause the operator to momentarily lose steering control. Before tightening the clamp, verify the handle ball position does not obstruct the operator’s view of the instrument panel gauges and warning lights. After installation, test the handle ball by rotating the steering wheel lock-to-lock and verifying the handle ball does not contact the operator’s body, the dashboard, or any control levers at any steering position. For multi-operator forklifts, the handle ball position may need to be adjusted for each operator.
