Installing the steering wheel assist handle ball requires clamping the handle ball bracket onto the steering wheel rim at the most comfortable position for the operator — typically at the 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock position for right-handed operators. The clamp mechanism must be tightened sufficiently to prevent the handle ball from slipping or rotating on the steering wheel rim during use — a loose handle ball that slips during a critical steering maneuver can cause the operator to momentarily lose steering control. Before tightening the clamp, verify the handle ball position does not obstruct the operator’s view of the instrument panel gauges and warning lights. After installation, test the handle ball by rotating the steering wheel lock-to-lock and verifying the handle ball does not contact the operator’s body, the dashboard, or any control levers at any steering position. For multi-operator forklifts, the handle ball position may need to be adjusted for each operator.
