After installation, loosen the bleed screw on the injection pump and operate the manual lift pump primer until bubble-free fuel flows from the bleed port. Tighten the bleed screw before starting. Common failure symptoms: engine starts then stalls after 10-15 seconds (air lock from improperly bled filter), black smoke under load with normal boost pressure (restricted fuel flow from clogged filter), and water-in-fuel warning light illuminated (water separator bowl full — drain immediately to prevent injection pump damage).
