37-Teeth 156.3mm Transmission Brake Friction Plate — Hydraulic Transmission Clutch Brake Disc
This 37-teeth, 156.3mm friction plate is a transmission brake disc for the internal clutch-brake pack inside hydraulic automatic transmissions on 2-3.5 ton forklifts — a completely different component from the manual clutch disc that sits between the engine and transmission. In a hydraulic powershift transmission, forward and reverse are engaged not by a dry clutch and gear selector, but by wet multi-plate clutch packs that are hydraulically actuated. This friction plate is one of the discs inside that pack: it is splined onto the transmission shaft hub via its 37 internal teeth and, when hydraulic pressure compresses the pack, it locks against adjacent steel separator plates to transmit power. A worn friction plate in a transmission clutch pack causes delayed or slipping engagement in forward or reverse — the forklift hesitates when you shift direction, or the transmission “flares” (engine RPM rises without corresponding wheel speed) during acceleration. Unlike a manual clutch that slips progressively over weeks, a hydraulic clutch pack friction plate failure is often abrupt because the friction material delaminates from the steel core once it wears below the minimum thickness.
The 37 internal spline teeth are the identity of this plate — they must match the transmission shaft hub exactly. A 38-tooth plate or a 41-tooth plate will not slide onto this shaft; the splines are involute-cut and dimensionally different. The 156.3mm outer diameter is the second critical dimension: it determines the friction surface area and, combined with the hydraulic apply pressure, sets the torque capacity of that clutch pack. Installing a plate with a different OD into a transmission designed for 156.3mm discs changes the pack’s clearance stack-up — too thick a plate prevents full disengagement (the pack drags, generating heat and burning the transmission fluid), while too thin a plate increases the pack clearance beyond the piston stroke limit (the pack never fully engages, and the transmission slips under load from day one). The friction material is a cellulose-paper-based wet friction compound impregnated with resin and graphite — formulated to operate submerged in transmission fluid at 80-100°C, which is fundamentally different from the dry organic facings used on manual clutch discs that would disintegrate in hot ATF within minutes.
Compatible with Heli, Hangcha, TCM, and Toyota 2-3.5 ton forklifts using hydraulic powershift transmissions with 37-tooth, 156.3mm internal clutch pack friction plates. Always measure your existing plate’s tooth count (count the splines on the ID), outer diameter (caliper measurement across the disc), and thickness before ordering. Replace as a complete set within each clutch pack — mixing new and worn plates creates uneven engagement and accelerated wear. Flush the transmission and replace the filter when servicing clutch packs. Browse our transmission parts category. Reference OEM specs at Heli official website.
