XinChai 490 Engine Valve Stem Oil Seal — FKM High-Temperature Seal

This valve stem oil seal is specifically designed for XinChai 490, A490BPG, 490B, and compatible 4-cylinder diesel engines widely used in HELI, Hangcha, Lonking, and other domestic-brand 1-3 ton forklifts. The valve stem seal performs the critical function of metering the precise amount of engine oil that lubricates the valve stem-to-guide interface while preventing excess oil from being drawn into the combustion chamber during the intake stroke. When valve stem seals fail, the engine exhibits blue-gray smoke on cold startup, increased oil consumption — often 0.5-1 liter per 100 operating hours — and carbon deposits building up on the valve heads and seats, which can eventually cause valve burning, power loss, and expensive cylinder head overhaul. This OEM-spec replacement restores factory oil metering characteristics, eliminating these symptoms and maintaining proper engine performance.

This seal is manufactured from FKM (fluoroelastomer, commonly known by the DuPont trade name Viton®) with a steel reinforcing shell and an integrated stainless steel garter spring. The FKM material is specifically selected for its superior high-temperature performance compared to standard nitrile (NBR) seals — maintaining full elasticity and sealing force at continuous operating temperatures up to 200°C, with intermittent capability to 230°C, which is essential for exhaust valve positions where guide temperatures regularly exceed 180°C during loaded operation. The precision-molded sealing lip features a hydrodynamic pumping profile that meters a controlled oil film of approximately 0.5-1.5cc per hour onto the valve stem, sufficient for lubrication without causing visible exhaust smoke. The garter spring maintains consistent radial lip tension of 2-4N throughout the seal’s service life, compensating for normal lip wear, temperature-induced material expansion, and minor valve stem-to-guide eccentricity. The steel shell provides positive mechanical retention on the valve guide boss, preventing the seal from lifting off or spinning during high-RPM operation, crankcase pressure fluctuations, or when the valve stem is withdrawn during cylinder head disassembly.
