OEM 118H3-80401 electro-hydraulic inching valve for TCM FD20-FD30 T6 powershift transmission. PWM 0-800mA solenoid with 8-12Ω coil. ECU-controlled 2-15 bar proportional modulation.

Forklift Inching Valve 118H3-80401 — Electro-Hydraulic Modulating Valve for TCM FD20-FD30 T6 Series

The 118H3-80401 is an electro-hydraulic inching valve for TCM FD20, FD25, and FD30 T6 series forklifts with electronically-controlled powershift transmissions. Unlike the mechanical cable-actuated inching valves used on earlier TCM models (where the clutch pedal mechanically moves the valve spool), this T6-series valve uses an electrical solenoid to proportionally control hydraulic pressure based on a potentiometer signal from the inching pedal position sensor. When the operator depresses the inching pedal, the potentiometer sends a 0-5V signal to the transmission ECU, which drives the solenoid with a PWM (pulse-width modulated) current of 0-800mA — the solenoid plunger moves the valve spool proportionally, reducing clutch pack pressure from 15 bar (full engagement) to 2 bar (full disengagement) in a smooth, repeatable curve that is programmed into the ECU rather than dependent on mechanical linkage adjustment. The electro-hydraulic design eliminates the mechanical linkage wear and adjustment drift issues of cable-operated valves, providing consistent inching behavior over the life of the forklift.

Troubleshooting an electro-hydraulic inching valve requires a diagnostic approach different from mechanical valves. First, verify the solenoid coil resistance at the connector — it should measure 8-12 ohms at 20°C. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a burned coil; a short circuit (less than 2 ohms) indicates coil winding insulation failure that will overload the ECU driver circuit. The inching pedal potentiometer should output 0.5V ±0.1V at full pedal release and 4.5V ±0.1V at full pedal depression — a potentiometer with a dead spot (output voltage jump) in the 2-3V range will cause the inching valve to snap between partial engagement and disengagement rather than modulate smoothly. The solenoid can be tested independently by applying a variable DC power supply: at 200mA the valve should begin to open (pressure begins to drop), at 500mA the pressure should be approximately 6-8 bar, and at 800mA the pressure should be at minimum (2-3 bar). Common failure symptoms: transmission “jumps” into gear when inching pedal is released from full depression (solenoid spool sticking in the open position), no response to inching pedal movement — transmission always fully engaged (failed solenoid or broken wiring to the ECU), and ECU diagnostic trouble code P1740 (inching valve solenoid circuit malfunction).

This valve fits TCM FD20, FD25, and FD30 T6 series forklifts with electro-hydraulic transmission control. Verify OEM number 118H3-80401 on your existing valve. For related transmission control components, visit our Forklift Hydraulic Transmission section.
