STEERING CYLINDER OPERATION: Forklift steering is fully hydraulic — there is no mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the wheels. When the operator turns the steering wheel, the steering orbitrol (hydraulic steering control unit) meters pressurized oil to the steering cylinder. The cylinder rod extends or retracts, pushing or pulling the steering linkage that pivots the rear axle or turns the rear wheel spindles. INSTALLATION: Support the forklift safely, turn wheels to straight-ahead, disconnect hydraulic hoses, remove cylinder mounting bolts at both ends, extract the old cylinder, install the new cylinder with new mounting hardware, reconnect hoses, bleed air by turning steering wheel lock-to-lock 10-15 times, check leaks, verify alignment.
