This forklift motor controller model 1264-5407 is a Kingstream OEM Curtis specification 36-48V 400A SX motor speed controller for electric forklifts, utility trucks, and golf carts. The 1264-5407 provides precise speed and torque control for DC series-wound and separately excited (sepex) motors through 16kHz PWM output. Intelligent Thermal System monitors and adjusts both controller and motor temperature to optimize performance and prevent overheating. SX mode allows customizable acceleration, deceleration, and braking parameters. IP65 protection class for dust-tight and water jet resistant operation. Installing the Curtis 1264-5407 motor controller requires mounting the controller in a clean, ventilated location away from heat sources and moisture — despite the IP65 rating, the controller generates significant heat at full 400A output and requires adequate airflow for the internal heatsink to dissipate thermal energy. Connect the battery positive and negative power cables to the B+ and B- terminals, the motor armature to M- and A2, the field winding to F1 and F2 (for series motors), the throttle input to the appropriate pins on the 24-pin logic connector, and the key switch, forward/reverse contactor, and main contactor control circuits. Before powering on, verify all connections are tight and the correct motor type is selected in the controller configuration. The controller must be programmed via the Curtis 1311 handheld programmer or 1314 PC programming station to set the motor type, throttle type (0-5K ohm, ITS, or voltage), acceleration rate, deceleration rate, maximum speed, current limit, and regenerative braking parameters. Incorrect parameter settings can cause motor overheating, controller fault codes, or unsafe vehicle operation. The Intelligent Thermal System continuously monitors the controller heatsink and motor temperature sensors — if either reaches the thermal cutback threshold, the controller progressively reduces output current to prevent damage while maintaining vehicle operability at reduced power. After programming, test the vehicle through all speed ranges and verify smooth acceleration, proper regenerative braking, and no unexpected fault codes.
