STEERING KNUCKLE FUNCTION: The steering knuckle is the structural pivot point of the forklift steering system. It mounts to the rear axle beam via the king pin (vertical pivot pin) and provides the mounting surface for the wheel hub and steering tie rod connection. When the steering cylinder extends or retracts, the tie rod pushes or pulls the steering arm on the knuckle, causing it to rotate around the king pin and change the wheel angle. The knuckle must withstand the full weight of the rear of the forklift plus dynamic steering loads — damaged or worn knuckles cause loose steering, uneven tire wear, and compromised steering safety. INSTALLATION: Jack up and support the rear of the forklift. Remove the rear wheel. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle arm. Remove the king pin retaining bolt and drive out the king pin. Extract the old knuckle. Install the new knuckle onto the axle beam, align the king pin bore, and drive in the king pin with a new retaining bolt. Reconnect the tie rod end. Install the wheel hub and wheel.
