Steering wheel installation on the A30 series is straightforward: remove the horn button by depressing and rotating counterclockwise, remove the M18×1.5 retaining nut (40-50 N-m), and pull the wheel straight off the tapered shaft. If the wheel resists removal, use a two-jaw puller engaging the hub slots — never use a hammer on the rim or spokes. During installation, verify the wheel is centered (equal turns lock-to-lock after mounting) and that the horn contact ring makes positive contact with the spring-loaded pin in the steering column. Common wear indicators: the polyurethane rim developing a sticky or tacky surface texture (plasticizer migration from prolonged heat exposure — common in non-air-conditioned forklifts operating in hot climates), cracks radiating from the hub-to-spoke junction (fatigue from repeated operator pull-up force during entry and exit), and horn intermittent operation (worn contact ring on the hub underside).
