The 11243-82151 is an OEM steel separator plate for the clutch packs in Heli CPCD20-CPCD30 and TCM FD20-FD30 powershift transmissions. In a multi-plate clutch pack, steel separator plates are interleaved between the friction plates — when hydraulic pressure is applied by the clutch piston, the alternating stack of friction and steel plates is compressed together, and the steel plates transfer torque through their external splines to the clutch drum. This plate is manufactured from high-carbon spring steel (SK5 equivalent) with a precision-ground surface finish of Ra 0.6-1.0 microns, hardened to HRC 40-45 — hard enough to resist wear from the friction material contact but not so hard that the plate becomes brittle and cracks under the cyclic thermal loading of repeated clutch engagements. The plate thickness is 1.8mm ±0.02mm, and this tolerance is critical because the total steel plate thickness in the clutch pack directly affects the clutch piston travel and engagement timing.

Steel separator plates should always be replaced as a complete set when rebuilding a clutch pack — mixing new plates of 1.80mm thickness with used plates that have worn to 1.70-1.75mm will create an uneven stack height, causing uneven clamping force distribution across the friction plates. The “hot spots” created by uneven clamping will burn the friction material on the plates adjacent to the worn steel plates within the first 100 hours of operation. Before installation, inspect each new plate for flatness on a surface plate — the maximum allowable warpage is 0.08mm. A warped plate will cause the clutch pack to drag when disengaged, generating heat that warps adjacent plates in a cascade failure. Also check for any burrs on the spline teeth — a burr as small as 0.1mm on a spline tooth will prevent the plate from sliding freely during engagement, causing the clutch to engage suddenly rather than progressively. Common failure symptoms: transmission shudder during clutch engagement (warped plate causing uneven friction), clutch pack dragging in neutral when the transmission is hot (plate warpage from overheating), and blue or purple discoloration on the plate surface (temper colors indicating the plate reached 300-350°C — permanently annealed and must be replaced).
