Forklift Hydraulic Clutch Assembly — OEM Clutch Pack for Heli/TCM 1-3 Ton Powershift Transmissions

This hydraulic clutch assembly is designed specifically for Heli CPCD10-CPCD30 and TCM FD15-FD30 1-3 ton forklift powershift transmissions. Unlike the larger universal 1-5 ton clutch pack (which uses a 6-plate friction stack), this 1-3 ton assembly uses a 4-plate configuration — fewer friction plates are required because the lower torque output of 1-3 ton class engines (typically 35-55 kW) does not require the additional friction surface area. The reduced plate count also provides a faster clutch engagement time of approximately 0.3-0.5 seconds (vs 0.5-0.8 seconds for the 6-plate assembly), which is advantageous for the rapid directional changes common in warehouse forklift operations. The friction plates use a paper-based material with a grooved surface pattern — the grooves serve as oil escape channels that allow ATF to squeeze out from between the plates during engagement, preventing the hydrodynamic “floating” effect that would cause delayed torque transfer in a smooth-faced plate.

The 4-plate clutch stack in this 1-3 ton assembly has a total stack height specification of 18.5-19.0mm when compressed under 100 N preload. This stack height is factory-set during assembly by selecting steel separator plates from thickness classes A (1.75mm), B (1.80mm), and C (1.85mm) to achieve the target stack height within ±0.15mm. Because of this selective assembly process, the unit should always be replaced as a complete assembly — the individual components are not sold separately, and attempting to rebuild the clutch pack with individual plates will result in an incorrect stack height. After installation, the clutch pack must be air-pressure tested at 6 bar through the apply port — the piston must fully stroke within 0.3 seconds of pressure application and hold pressure with no audible leakage. Common failure symptoms: transmission slips in forward direction only (forward clutch pack worn), engine RPM increases without corresponding vehicle speed increase under load (clutch pack slipping), and ATF appearing dark with a burnt odor within 200 hours of a fluid change (clutch pack overheating from continuous partial slip).
