This complete assembly includes the clutch friction discs, steel separator plates, hydraulic piston, return springs, and housing — pre-assembled and tested as a single drop-in unit for transmission rebuild applications. The 14883-80201 clutch pack handles the full engine torque transfer from the torque converter to the transmission output shaft, engaging and disengaging hydraulically through the transmission control valve without mechanical clutch pedal input.

This clutch assembly fits both the FD20-30Z5 (standard) and FD20-30T6 (heavy-duty) TCM forklift series, covering the 2-3 ton capacity range. The Z5 and T6 transmissions share the same clutch pack specifications — the 14883-80201 is interchangeable between both series. Common failure indicators include: delayed forward or reverse engagement after shifting (friction disc wear below minimum thickness); transmission fluid overheating and darkening (clutch slippage generating excess heat); metallic chattering noise during gear changes (warped steel separator plates); and burnt odor from the transmission dipstick (severe clutch pack failure). The clutch pack must be replaced as a complete assembly — individual friction discs are not separately serviceable in the TCM transmission design.

Installation requires transmission removal and partial disassembly to access the clutch pack housing. Soak the new friction discs in clean transmission fluid for 30 minutes minimum before installation. Replace the piston seals and housing O-rings — reusing old seals is the primary cause of post-rebuild clutch pack failure due to internal pressure leaks. After assembly, verify clutch pack end-play with a feeler gauge per TCM specification; insufficient clearance causes clutch drag and overheating, while excessive clearance causes harsh engagement and accelerated wear.
