LIFT CYLINDER WORKING PRINCIPLE: When the operator moves the lift control lever, the hydraulic control valve directs pressurized oil from the hydraulic pump into the lift cylinder through a single port at the base. The oil pressure acts on the piston or plunger, extending the cylinder rod upward with the lift chains and carriage. The lifting force is proportional to the hydraulic pressure and piston area. When the operator lowers the forks, the control valve opens the cylinder port to the tank return line, and gravity or the load weight forces oil out of the cylinder. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE: Lower the forks completely and relieve hydraulic pressure before removing the cylinder. Disconnect the hydraulic hose and the lift chain anchors. Remove the cylinder mounting pins and carefully extract the cylinder from the mast channel. Install the new cylinder in reverse order — ensure the rod guide bearing is properly aligned in the mast channel to prevent binding. Bleed the hydraulic system by cycling the mast up and down 5-10 times. Check for external oil leaks at the rod seal and hose fitting under load.
