The old control box is typically mounted on the firewall, under the dashboard, or in a dedicated electrical enclosure near the battery compartment. Before disconnecting the old box, label or photograph every plug position — the 9+6+1+1 port layout is keyed to prevent misconnection, but forcing a plug into the wrong socket can bend pins and cause intermittent electrical faults that are extremely difficult to diagnose because they appear as random system failures that come and go with vehicle vibration.
