Stamped from iron and finished in black, it bolts onto the outer face of the rear hub to seal the bearing cavity against dust, moisture, and workshop debris — contaminants that rapidly accelerate bearing wear when the hub is left exposed. On 1.5-ton forklifts operating in warehouses, light manufacturing, and logistics centers, the rear wheels experience less load than the front drive wheels, but the rear hubs are more susceptible to contamination because they sit lower and closer to floor-level dust and water. Replacing a rear hub cap on a HELI 1.5-ton forklift is a quick bolt-on procedure. Remove the rear wheel to access the hub face, then remove the old cap by unscrewing the perimeter retaining bolts — typically 3 or 4 M6 bolts. Before installing the new hub cap, thoroughly clean the hub mating surface to remove rust, old gasket residue, and dried grease. Apply a thin silicone gasket bead or use a paper gasket between the cap flange and hub face to ensure a dust-tight seal. Torque the bolts in a cross pattern to 8-10 Nm — over-tightening the small M6 bolts warps the thin stamped iron cap flange and creates a permanent leak gap. Check that the cap does not contact any rotating hub components by spinning the hub by hand after installation. The most common cause of repeat failure on these small-diameter hub caps is corrosion at the bolt holes where moisture wicks past the bolts, so applying a dab of anti-seize or thread sealant to each bolt during installation extends service life significantly in wet environments.
