Installing the disc brake assembly on an 8-10 ton forklift requires removing the wheel and tire assembly using appropriate heavy lifting equipment, disconnecting the brake hydraulic line from the caliper, unbolting the caliper mounting bracket, removing the old disc rotor from the wheel hub, and installing the replacement rotor and caliper assembly. The caliper must be properly centered over the disc rotor — a misaligned caliper causes uneven pad wear, reduced braking efficiency, and potential brake drag that overheats the rotor. After mechanical installation, connect the hydraulic line to the caliper, refill the brake master cylinder with the correct brake fluid, and bleed the brake system using the standard bleed sequence (starting from the wheel farthest from the master cylinder). The brake pedal should feel firm with engagement within the first 25-50% of travel. A spongy pedal indicates air in the hydraulic system. For 8-10 ton forklifts operating in port, mining, and heavy construction environments, the disc brake assembly must be inspected during every scheduled maintenance for pad wear, rotor thickness, rotor surface condition, caliper piston leakage, and hydraulic line integrity.
