This hydraulic clutch assembly is the complete friction pack unit for 2-3 ton forklift powershift transmissions — it contains the clutch friction discs, steel separator plates, piston, return springs, and housing assembled as a single drop-in unit. When the transmission control valve directs hydraulic pressure to this clutch pack, the piston compresses the friction and steel discs together, locking the selected gear set to the shaft for forward or reverse drive. This assembly fits most 2-3 ton forklifts using a hydraulic powershift transmission, including models from HELI, TCM, Nissan, Komatsu, and Toyota.

A worn hydraulic clutch assembly produces distinct failure symptoms: delayed or slipping engagement when shifting into forward or reverse — the friction discs have worn below minimum thickness and cannot achieve full lockup; transmission fluid that appears dark and smells burnt — clutch slippage generates excessive heat that degrades the fluid; metallic grinding or chattering during gear engagement — the steel separator plates have warped from overheating and are not releasing cleanly between shifts; and complete loss of drive in one direction — the clutch pack for that gear set has failed entirely. In most powershift transmissions, forward and reverse each have their own clutch pack — a failure in one direction does not necessarily affect the other.

Installation requires removing the transmission from the forklift and disassembling the transmission to access the clutch pack housing. The replacement assembly must be installed with new seals on the piston and housing — reusing old seals is the most common cause of post-rebuild clutch pack failure. Soak the new friction discs in fresh transmission fluid for at least 30 minutes before assembly to prevent dry start-up damage. After installation, torque the clutch pack retaining nut or snap ring to specification and verify clutch pack clearance with a feeler gauge — insufficient clearance causes clutch drag and overheating; excessive clearance causes delayed engagement.
