Unlike hydraulic pump motor brushes (like the J230 at 8.8×19.2×16mm), steering motor brushes carry lower current but operate at higher duty cycles — the steering motor runs continuously during maneuvering rather than intermittently like the hydraulic pump. A steering brush that wears down past its minimum length causes intermittent steering response — the forklift steers normally then suddenly stiffens when the brush loses contact mid-turn. Installation requires replacing all brushes in the motor as a set — steering motors typically use 4 brushes (2 pairs).
