REAR AXLE FUNCTION: Unlike cars where the front axle steers, forklifts use rear-wheel steering for superior maneuverability in tight spaces. The rear axle beam is the structural foundation of the steering system — it carries the weight of the forklift counterweight and battery (or engine in diesel models) and provides the pivoting mount points for the steering knuckles. The steering cylinder mounts to the axle beam, and the tie rods connect the cylinder to the steering knuckles. When the operator turns the steering wheel, the steering knuckles pivot on the axle beam king pins to change the rear wheel angle. INSTALLATION: Jack up and support the forklift. Remove both rear wheels. Disconnect the steering cylinder and tie rods from the axle. Disconnect the brake lines if routed through the axle. Unbolt the axle from the chassis mounting points. Lower and remove the old axle. Lift the new axle into position and bolt to the chassis mounting points. Reconnect the steering cylinder and tie rods. Reconnect brake lines and bleed the brake system if applicable. Install the rear wheels. Check steering geometry and alignment. Test drive and verify smooth steering operation. 6-month warranty.
